Range:

Habitat: terrestrial in moist, open, acidic bogs,
prairies, pine woods, and roadsides
Common name: Chapman's Fringed Orchid
Blooming: June-September
Comments: this terrestrial, although smaller than
P. ciliaris, is quite conspicuous growing in wet, open areas (often on wet roadsides
and ditches). It is believed to be an intergrade between P. ciliaris and P. cristata,
as its size is somewhat intermediate between the two species. It grows, however,
in stable populations in places where neither parent is known to occur (or does
not occur anymore), which leads some to believe that this deserves its own status as a species.
